Sooners Lead Entering Final Round at Colonial

FORT WORTH – After 36 holes of play at the Ben Hogan Collegiate at Colonial Country Club, the Oklahoma men's golf team leads the field, with four Sooners sitting inside the top seven on the individual leaderboard.
Eighth-ranked Oklahoma (1, -9) holds a two-shot lead over No. 11 Texas, a five-shot lead over top-ranked Auburn and a seven-shot advantage over No. 16 North Carolina heading into Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole tournament. The 15-team field boasts 12 teams ranked in the top 25, including six from the top 10. The Sooners posted the best morning round, firing a 276, followed by a 5-under 275 in the afternoon.
"This is a championship golf course, and our guys did a great job of working their way around it today," head coach Ryan Hybl said. "It's a big grind out here, playing 36 holes in an 11- or 12-hour day, but they handled it about as good as you can from top to bottom. We're excited for the chance to win another championship tomorrow."
Matthew Troutman leads the Sooners, sitting tied for fifth, with Drew Goodman, Ryder Cowan and PJ Maybank III all tied for seventh. The individual winner earns an exemption into the PGA Tour's Charles Schwab Challenge next May. Troutman heads into the final round three strokes off the lead, while the other three Sooners are just four shots back of UNC's David Ford and Texas' Daniel Bennett.
Troutman (T5, -3), with three top-20 finishes in four career events, shot rounds of 69 and 68 at the par-70, 7,289-yard course, finishing the day at 3-under. His 25 pars were the most of any Sooner, as the junior from Louisville, Ky., looks to make a run at his first individual title.
Drew Goodman (T7, -2) kept his strong season rolling, posting a 66 and 72. His opening 66 matched his career low, set earlier this season at the Inverness Club.
Sophomores Ryder Cowan and PJ Maybank III join Goodman in seventh at 2-under. Cowan signed for a 71-67, with his 67 marking a career low and Oklahoma's best afternoon score. Maybank III recorded rounds of 70-68 and led the team with nine birdies, recording his second career round in the 60s with his second-round score.
Jase Summy (T47, +6) completed the Sooners' lineup and is tied for 47th after back-to-back 73s.
Fresh off their win at the Valero Texas Collegiate, the Sooners will aim for back-to-back victories on Tuesday. They'll tee off at 9:30 a.m. CT alongside Texas and Auburn in the final grouping.
