NORMAN – The 11-time defending Big 12 Conference champion University of Oklahoma softball team has been voted by the league's head coaches as the unanimous preseason favorite in the 2024 Big 12 Preseason Poll Wednesday.
The Sooners received 81 points in the poll including each of the nine available first-place votes, as coaches cannot vote for their own team. Texas followed in second place with 73 points while Oklahoma State earned 62 points to land in third.
Baylor was selected fourth (59 points), UCF fifth (48), Texas Tech sixth (35), BYU seventh, (28) Kansas eighth (27), Iowa State ninth (20) and Houston 10
th (17).
OU won both the regular season and conference tournament championships last season while going 18-0 in Big 12 play. The Sooners enter their final season of Big 12 competition with a 394-87 (.819) league record since the conference began in 1996. They are 121-4 (.968) in Big 12 play since the beginning of the 2016 season and have not lost a conference series since 2011.
The program has won 23 Big 12 titles (15 regular season and eight Big 12 tournament championships), all under head coach
Patty Gasso.
Oklahoma returns four first-team All-Big 12 selections from last season, including reigning Big 12 Player of the Year
Jayda Coleman.
