Goodman Named to Haskins Watch List

NORMAN – Oklahoma junior golfer Drew Goodman has been named to the Fred Haskins Award preseason watch list, it was announced by the Haskins Foundation this week.

Awarded annually to the best college golfer in the country and now in its 54th year, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel has been given to players who have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournaments worldwide. Goodman's selection to the 2024 watch list marks the sixth consecutive year that an Oklahoma golfer appeared on the list.

Past recipients include names such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Justin Thomas, as well as OU golfer Chris Gotterup, who claimed the honor in 2022.

Goodman enters the 2023-24 campaign fresh off back-to-back All-America honors and was an All-Big 12 and Big 12 All-Tournament team selection last season. He wrapped up the 2023 campaign as OU's highest-ranked golfer (No. 40) after posting a scoring average of 70.05 (-0.97) behind a school-record 158 birdies. He finished inside the top 20 in eight of his 12 tournaments, including five top-five finishes.\

The Norman, Okla., product shined this summer, qualifying for the U.S. Amateur, where he advanced into match play. He was a match-play semifinalist at the Western Amateur, where he closed stroke play as the No. 2 seed. A fourth-place finish at the Trans-Mississippi Amateur helped him secure the No. 16 spot in the Elite Amateur Series, a summer tour of the United State's top amateur events.

Goodman and the No. 7/10 Sooners tee off the season on Saturday at the Valero Texas Collegiate in San Antonio.
