NORMAN – When the Oklahoma men's golf team tees off in the season-opening Valero Texas Collegiate on Sept. 9, it will do so as the No. 10 ranked team in the nation.
The Golf Coaches Association of America unveiled the Bushnell/Golfweek preseason poll Friday, slotting the Sooners inside the preseason top 10 for the seventh time in eight years. Oklahoma, who has won back-to-back Big 12 championships, is the league's highest ranked team.
The Sooners are led by head coach
Ryan Hybl who enters his 15
th season at the helm of the program in 2023-24. He has led Oklahoma to three conference titles and a national championship in 2017, as well as the 13 best single-season scoring averages in school history. The Sooners will be led by a veteran roster that returns 192 rounds played from a combined eight golfers.
Guided by All-America honorees
Ben Lorenz and
Drew Goodman, the Sooners will look to build on the success from the previous seasons as OU seeks its 13
th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, which would be the second-longest streak in program history.
OU earned 275 points in the preseason poll. Golfweek Magazine and Spikemark, the NCAA's replacement for Golfstat, will release their polls at a later date.
