Eight Sooners in Field as Korn Ferry Tour Comes to Norman

June 19, 2023 | Men's Golf

NORMAN – Eight former Oklahoma golfers are set to compete this week at the Compliance Solutions Championship – a Korn Ferry Tour event hosted at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

The eight Sooners – Quade Cummins, Martin Flores, Michael Gellerman, Chris Gotterup, Grant Hirschman, Logan McAllister, Charlie Saxon and Patrick Welch – have either full or conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour, the top developmental tour of the PGA TOUR.

"We can't wait to welcome all of these guys back to Norman this week," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "The opportunity for our home golf course and the city of Norman to host a professional golf tournament is extraordinary and for our guys to play at a course they know is an exciting opportunity. I hope that Sooner Nation comes out to support our guys and watch some really high-level golf."

Jimmie Austin has hosted several high-profile events in its history, including the 2009 U.S. Amateur Public Links and several NCAA Regionals. The course is home to the Oklahoma men's and women's golf teams and was named the No. 6 collegiate golf course in the country by Golfweek this year. The 2023 Compliance Solutions Championship will be the first Korn Ferry Tour event played in Oklahoma.

"We are thrilled to partner with Compliance Solutions to bring Korn Ferry Tour golf to The Sooner State," said Korn Ferry Tour president Alex Baldwin. "Oklahoma is home to incredibly passionate golf fans, and this is a market we've been targeting for some time. Our membership is excited about the opportunity to compete at the Jimmie Austin Golf Club at The University of Oklahoma."

All but one of the eight golfers played under Hybl at OU as Flores graduated from Oklahoma in 2005 and played under Jim Ragan. Gellerman and Saxon graduated from Oklahoma in 2015, Hirschman in 2018, Cummins in 2021, McAllister and Gotterup in 2022, and Welch in 2023. The top 30 golfers on the final points list at the end of the KFT season earn their PGA TOUR cards.

Entering the week, McAllister leads the Sooner contingent with 589 points in 18th. Gotterup is in 41st followed by Flores in 68th. Cummins sits in 80th with Hirschman just behind him in 110th. Next on the points list is Michael Gellerman who is 129th. Welch, a senior at OU in 2023, has played in two KFT events this year, missing the cut at the BMW Charity Pro-Am but finishing T12 at the Wichita Open last weekend and is T150.

Tickets for the tournament are on sale now, with festivities starting on Wednesday with the Compliance Solutions Championship Pro-Am. Round one tees off on Thursday morning, with golfers playing 72 holes before a champion is crowned on Sunday afternoon.
