SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – After posting a 293 (+13) on Saturday at the NCAA Championship and sits alone in 19th at the midway point of the championship.
The Sooners will need a low round on Sunday to make the 54-hole cut to 15 teams, as they are four shots back of the cut and eight strokes off of Monday's match-play cut.
Drew Goodman (T13, E) continues to lead the 10th-ranked Sooners, posting a 2-over 72 Saturday to share 13th after 36 holes. The sophomore named a PING All-Region selection on Saturday morning is looking for his second straight top-20 finish at the NCAA Championship after earning a T20 finish last season.
Goodman's 72 was matched by Stephen Campbell Jr. (T96, +8) for the team's low round of the day. Campbell Jr. was 2-under at the turn after starting on the 10th, but a 4-over back nine on the front pushed him over par.
Jase Summy (T55, +5) led the team with five birdies, but a trio of double bogeys sent him into the black for the day. Ben Lorenz (T108, +9) and Patrick Welch (T140, +14) rounded out the Oklahoma contingent on Saturday.
Goodman, Lorenz, Summy and Welch were all named to the PING All-Region team Saturday, marking the second straight season that OU has landed four golfers on the All-Region team, PING's first step toward becoming an All-American.
At stake for the Sooners is the nation's longest streak of match-play appearances, as OU has qualified for the last six editions of the championship-deciding format.
The championship is contested over 72 holes of stroke play, with the field being cut from 30 to 15 teams after 54 holes. Following 72 cumulative holes, the field will be narrowed to eight teams who will square off in a quarterfinal, semifinal and final match to determine a national champion. Following Sunday's round, the low nine individuals on a non-advancing team will continue to Monday's final round, where the individual champion will be crowned.
The Sooners will play in the tougher afternoon wave on Sunday, teeing off with Arkansas (T20, +22) and Ohio State (T20, +22) at 1:42 p.m. CT.
No. 3 Illinois is the only team in the red after 36 holes, sitting at 2-under par and leading the field by three strokes. Georgia Tech's Ross Steelman extended his lead on Saturday, posting a 69 (-1) to build a three-shot lead at the midway point.
