NORMAN — Oklahoma softball junior Jayda Coleman and sophomore Jordy Bahl combined to sweep the Big 12 weekly awards after helping the Sooners to their 11th straight Big 12 regular season title. The conference announced the weekly honors Tuesday.
Coleman earned Player of the Week accolades after batting .667 (6-for-9) with two doubles, two home runs and six runs batted in vs. Kansas. The versatile centerfielder totaled five runs scored, 14 total bases and drew one walk and stole a base. Coleman homered in back-to-back games to start the series, going a perfect 3-for-3 on Saturday. On the weekend, Coleman paced the conference in batting average, slugging and on base percentages. She leads the team in a number of categories including home runs (13) and hits (59) on the year.
Bahl collected Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing 6.2 scoreless innings in two appearances on the weekend, helping the Sooners secure the conference regular season title. Bahl was exceptional in Friday's run-rule win, earning the win in a complete-game shutout with four hits allowed, no walks and seven strikeouts. She helped her own cause with a two-run, walk-off single in the fifth to end the game in run-rule fashion. Friday was her sixth individual shutout of the season. Bahl closed Sunday's game three, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings and allowing one hit to go with three strikeouts and zero walks. On the year, Bahl holds a 1.10 ERA and 14-1 record with 127 strikeouts.
The sweep marks the second time this season the Sooners have swept the conference weekly awards, while the honors are Coleman's second of the season and third of her career and Bahl's second of 2023 and fifth of her career.
The Sooners return to action Tuesday evening in Tulsa for a midweek matchup vs. Tulsa. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CT and can be seen via ESPN+ and heard on 107.7 The Franchise in Oklahoma or nationwide on The Varsity Network app.
