Men's Golf Returns to Course at Men's NIT
March 16, 2023 | Men's Golf
TUCSON — The No. 11-ranked Oklahoma men's golf team looks for its third win of the season at this weekend's Men's NIT played at the OMNI Tucson National in Tucson, Ariz., starting on Friday. The Sooners will compete at the two-day, 54-hole annual event against 12 other teams, including seven inside the top 25.
Last season at the NIT, Oklahoma finished fourth behind a T9 finish from Chris Gotterup. At the 2021 Invitational, the Sooners finished as the runners-up fired the then-third-lowest score versus par (-43) in program history as Garett Reband won the individual title.
In its last time on the course, Oklahoma dispatched Texas A&M in a match at Whispering Pines, 5-4-2. In its most recent team event, OU finished fifth vs. a stacked field at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas.
A standard five-count-four event in the desert, the Oklahoma lineup consists of Patrick Welch, Drew Goodman, Matthew Troutman, who makes his college debut, Jase Summy and Jaxon Dowell. Head coach Ryan Hybl's lineup showcases two freshman in Summy and Troutman, a sophomore in Goodman, a redshirt sophomore in Dowell and a redshirt senior with Welch – it's Oklahoma's youngest lineup in at least six seasons.
Ben Lorenz and Stephen Campbell Jr., make appearances as unattached players.
