Men's Golf Seeks Third Win at Southern Highlands
February 25, 2023 | Men's Golf
LAS VEGAS — The No. 9-ranked Oklahoma men's golf team will look to win their third straight tournament and second in a row at Southern Highlands, starting Sunday at the 2023 Southern Highlands Collegiate. The event, held at the prestigious Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, is contested over 54 holes and showcases nine ranked teams in the 15-team field.
Last season at SHGC, then No. 1-ranked Oklahoma held off late charges from No. 5 Pepperdine and No. 15 Texas as Patrick Welch took home medalist honors to secure a spot in the PGA TOUR's Shriners Children's Open. The winner of this season's event will receive an exemption into the same PGA event, played at TPC Summerlin in the fall.
In their last time on the course, the Sooners opened their spring slate with a win at the Puerto Rico Classic after a thrilling final-round comeback. The Sooners (1, -30) fired a 272 (-16) in the final round to overtake East Tennessee State's (2, -25) 36-hole lead, win by five shots and notch their second win of the season. In addition, four Sooners finished inside the top 10 on the individual leaderboard, with Ben Lorenz finishing as the runner-up.
The Oklahoma lineup is led by the reigning champion Welch, Ben Lorenz, Drew Goodman, Stephen Campbell Jr. and Jake Holbrook. In addition, true freshman Jase Summy returns to the course, playing unattached.
