AUSTIN, Texas – Despite Grant Sherfield's 3-pointer to force overtime and a last second shot in the extra period, Oklahoma men's basketball dropped the Red River Showdown to No. 6/5 Texas 85-83 on Saturday afternoon.

Sherfield recorded a team-high 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting. The Fort Worth, Texas product, buried a team-best four 3-pointers and dished out three assists. Milos Uzan scored 15 points and added four assists, two steals and two rebounds.  Joe Bamisile added 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and Sam Godwin tallied 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting off the bench. Jalen Hill recorded 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The two state-boarding schools finished the first 20 minutes knotted at 34-all.

Oklahoma realized its first lead of the second half after back-to-back 3-pointers by Sherfield. The senior sharpshooter buried the first triple to bring the UT advantage to one. He drained his second 3-pointer in 30 seconds on a fastbreak after a Texas turnover to put the Sooners up 46-44 with 13:58 left in regulation.

Texas briefly recaptured the lead after a pair of free throws. Hill and Bamisile rattled in back-to-back threes to put the Sooners up five. Oklahoma held its advantage for the next seven minutes.

With OU up six with 6:07 remaining in the half, the Longhorns went on a 9-0 run and capped their spurt with back-to-back triples by Sir'Jabari Rice. Texas extended its lead to five with 2:30 left.

Hill and Godwin each netted a free throw to cut the UT lead to three. Following a pair of missed shots, Sherfield drained a 3-pointer with seven seconds left to force overtime.

Texas raced out to an 84-77 advantage in the extra frame.

Oklahoma put together a six-point spurt after a pair of Hill free throws and baskets by Godwin and Uzan, cutting the Texas lead to one. Tyrese Hunter made one of his two free throws after the intentional foul and gave Oklahoma one last attempt. The Sooners final shot caromed off the backboard.
