Brown Continuing to Give Back to the Game and the Community

NORMAN — Oklahoma senior guard Xzayvier Brown returned home to the Philadelphia area prior to the start of the school year to spend time with family and friends, while also giving back to the community by hosting a free basketball camp for boys and girls ages 9-14.

"I wanted to host the camp because I know what it was like growing up in Philly and loving basketball," said Brown. "I felt like this was a great way to give back to my community and show these kids that they are important. We had kids from all over the city come out, and we had a great time. They learned some skills, enjoyed some great food and got to learn from some of the coaches who helped shape me as a basketball player and as a person. It was a great experience."

Over 150 campers filled the gym at Penn Charter High School on Sunday, Aug. 16, as Brown and several of his former coaches put them through a full session of skills, drills and competition.

"It was a lot of fun working with them on the court," added Brown. "Honestly, I feel like I was in their shoes not too long ago. It was great to bring energy to the gym and share that love of basketball with them. They're 9-14 years old, so they already have plenty of energy, but it was great being around them and seeing how much they love the game."

Brown, who grew up near Penn Charter, provided all camp participants with a Xzayvier Brown basketball camp t-shirt, drawstring bag, lunch and sports drinks.

One of the top returning guards in the NCAA, Brown is coming off a standout season in which he averaged 15.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He led the Sooners in free throw percentage (.874), assists (122), steals (48) and minutes (1,199), while finishing second in points (570), field goals (202) and 3-point field goals (62). Brown posted 31 double-figure scoring games, including 13 contests with 20 or more points.

Brown enters the 2026-27 season with 1,576 points, 424 rebounds, 378 assists and 194 3-point field goals in 104 career games. He is poised to lead a reloaded Oklahoma roster as the Sooners look to return to the NCAA Tournament after playing in the championship game of the College Basketball Crown last season. The Sooners have won 20 or more games in each of the past three seasons and were ranked in the top 15 of the AP Poll in two of the past three campaigns.
