Rowing Announces 2023 Schedule

NORMAN - University of Oklahoma head rowing coach Sarah Trowbridge announced its 2023 schedule Friday, a slate that features three home events.Ā
"This is a team that loves to race," said Trowbridge. "We are excited to see programsĀ from coast-to-coast, and to challenge ourselves with fiveĀ NCAA top-20 matchups. I look forward to hosting teams in Oklahoma City, where we can race on an excellent course and be near our Sooner Family."Ā
The Sooners kickoff their spring season March 4-5 co-hosting Tulsa, Central Oklahoma and Kansas State in Oklahoma City. They will then meet Gonzaga, who has held the WCC title for the last seven years and placed 18th at the 2022 NCAA Championship,Ā on March 14Ā at the world-class training facility, Chula Vista, known for hosting dozens of summer Olympic sports.Ā
OU will then open the month of April in Oak Ridge, Tenn., to face Tennessee and Alabama, who placed second and third at the 2022 Big 12 Championship, respectively,Ā on April 1. The final two regular season away regattas will take place in Lawrence, Kan., against Kansas, Iowa and Minnesota on April 15 and the Lake Wheeler Invite, where the Sooners claimed seven second-place finishes last season on the 800-acre lake, in Raleigh, N.C., on April 22. The squad closes the regular season in Oklahoma City on April 29 for a rematch against Tulsa.Ā
The postseason will begin on May 13 at the 2023 Big 12 Rowing Championship in Austin, Texas, on Walter E. Long Lake. The Sooners took fourth at last year's Big 12 Championship, with Sooners Maria Pergouli and Breah McKay earning All-Big 12 honors following the regatta.Ā
The Big 12 champion team will automatically qualify or the 2023 NCAA Rowing Championships in Camden, N.J., on May 26-28. Other teams will be selected on an at-large basis for the championship.Ā
