NORMAN — The Oklahoma soccer team collected its fourth straight win with a 2-0 victory over Murray State on Sunday in Murray, Ky.
The team's six-match unbeaten streak and four-game win streak is the longest of each category since the 2016 season when the Sooners won eight straight.
"Today was a great way to finish non-conference play with a win and 5-2-2 record," said OU head coach Mark Carr. "We created a lot of chances today and will need to continue work on converting them, but really proud of Michelle (Pak)'s performance today and her goal. And of course, Emma (Hawkins) comes up with another banger of a goal."
OU closes non-conference play with a 5-2-2 record, good for the most non-conference wins under Carr and the most since the 2019 team went 5-3-2 through the non-conference slate.
Freshman Michelle Pak put the Sooners on the board early with her first collegiate goal. In the 24th minute, after fellow freshman Alexis Washington played a ball into the box that deflected off a Murray State defender, Pak was there to find the back of the net with a right-footed strike to the top left of the goal.
The Sooners held a one-goal advantage into the second half until senior Emma Hawkins tallied her fifth goal in OU's last six games in the 69th minute. Off an assist from Pak, Hawkins beat a Racer defender to the top of the 18-yard box and bent a ball perfectly into the upper 90 of the goal. The senior has scored in three straight matches and has a team-leading five goals on the year.
Washington recorded her team-high fifth assist of the season while Pak recorded her first collegiate assist to go with her first goal.
Fellow freshman Olivia Ramey collected her fourth win in as many starts, recording her second clean sheet of the season with a pair of saves in the match.
Oklahoma outshot Murray State (1-6-1) 17-6 in the game and took seven corners to MSU's one. Seven Sooners took a shot Sunday, paced by four a piece from Hawkins and sophomore Leonie Weber.
"Now with Big 12 starting next week, the level will increase once again," continued Carr. "We have to be ready to really compete and be at our best for Baylor on Friday."
The Sooners begin Big 12 play on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. CT in Waco, Texas, as they face off against Baylor (2-3-2).
