TULSA, Okla. — The Oklahoma soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to four matches with a dominant 5-2 victory over Oral Roberts Sunday evening.
Five different Sooners scored in the match from freshmen to redshirt seniors. OU (3-2-2) was exceptional on set pieces Sunday, scoring four of its five goals off corner kicks.
Seniors Bri Amos and Emma Hawkins and freshmen Morganne Eikelbarner and Chelsea Wagner all found the back of the net in the first half, while sophomore Sheridan Michel capped the scoring with a second-half goal.
"Another road win is really awesome," said OU head coach Mark Carr. "That's now four straight unbeaten, but we want to do more. Our first half performance was electric and incredible, thought we controlled the game and the goals we scored were of a very high level.
"Credit to ORU in the second half, they kept fighting and kept us on our toes, but we were worthy of the win. I'm also really proud of Sheridan (Michel) for scoring her first collegiate goal."
The Sooners came out firing with Hawkins tallying her third goal of the season in the sixth minute. On a corner played by sophomore Leonie Weber, Hawkins lofted a ball that deflected off an ORU defender and into the top of the net.
In the 18th minute, Amos buried a deep shot from over 20 yards out for her third goal of the year. Junior Cailey England assisted Amos who sent one to the back left of the net with her left foot.
Two OU freshmen got in on the scoring towards the end of the first half with goals from Wagner (32') and Eikelbarner (35'). After dropping a defender, Wagner scored from the right side of the six-yard box, tallying her second goal of her freshman season. Eikelbarner made it two straight games with a goal after scoring OU's lone goal in a win over Tulsa on Thursday. Off the assist from Wagner, Eikelbarner took a pair of shots, recovering the first ball that was blocked by the ORU keeper to bury her second look from out right of the six-yard box.
The Golden Eagles (4-3-1) didn't go quietly, scoring a pair of goals in the 45th and 48th minutes before the Sooners responded with another goal off a set piece, this one courtesy of Michel. Weber assisted on her second goal of the match, placing a ball perfectly inside the box that found the head of Michel who netted her first collegiate goal.
OU's five goals marked the most in Carr's three-year tenure and the highest output since a 7-1 win over Illinois State in 2018.
Oklahoma outshot ORU 23-12 in the match, putting 10 of its looks on frame. Twelve Sooners took a shot, led by Amos' five shots and two SOG.
In net, freshman Olivia Ramey collected her second straight win in as many starts, making three saves.
The Sooners continue their road swing next week with matches at East Tennessee State (Sept. 15, 6 p.m. CT) and Murray State (Sept. 18, 11 a.m.).
