Gotterup Named Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Year.

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma men's golf redshirt senior Chris Gotterup was named the Big 12 Conference's Golfer of the Year on Friday, becoming the first Sooner to win the league's top honor since Anthony Kim in 2005.

Gotterup also was named the conference's Newcomer of the Year and joined teammate Logan McAllister on the All-Big 12 Team.

Gotterup, who transferred to Oklahoma for his final season of eligibility, was also named the Fred Haskins Award winner, given annually to the nation's top player. The fifth-year golfer closed his season as the unanimous No. 1 collegiate golfer per the Golfstat and Golfweek rankings. In addition, he becomes the first Big 12 golfer to win Golfer and Newcomer of the Year in the same season since Texas' Brandon Stone in 2013. A first-team All-America selection, Gotterup posted wins at the East Lake Cup and Puerto Rico Classic in his lone season with the Sooners and was responsible for 10 top-10 finishes in 2022 behind a school-record 28 rounds of par or less in a season. The product of Little Silver, N.J., sunk 145 birdies on the year, the second-highest total in program history, which led to a 69.83 scoring average, third-best in the school's record book.

McAllister, also a first-team All-America selection, earns the second All-Big 12 nod of his career. The Oklahoma City product rewrote the Oklahoma record book and left Norman as the school's record holder for career scoring average at 70.98 (-0.40), making him the only Sooner in history to play his career under par. His four career wins are second all-time for a Sooner to Anthony Kim, including a win in 2021-22 at the Carmel Cup. Powered by the fourth-lowest single-season scoring average at OU this year, McAllister finished better than 87% of his opponents, the fifth-highest winning percentage in a single campaign for a Sooner.

The two led an Oklahoma team that finished the season as the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation, appearing atop all three major polls. While Gotterup is head coach Ryan Hybl's first Big 12 Golfer of the Year, the Sooners have landed seven golfers on the All-Big 12 Team over the last three seasons, second-most in the conference.
