Rowing Wraps Day One in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. – A strong afternoon session seees Oklahoma rowing take four second place finishes at the Lake Wheeler Invite on Friday.

All five of the boats the Sooners brought to the regatta raced twice on the day, and four of the five improved on either their time or placement in the second round. The OU crews only finished behind boats from programs currently ranked or receiving votes in the CRCA/PoCock poll in every race but one.

Led by junior coxswain Riley O'Neill and fifth-year senior Maria Pergouli, the first varsity eight crew for Oklahoma took third in the morning with a 06:45.097. It is the group's second best mark of the season. They would go on to finish second in the final race of the day for OU, posting a time of 06:47.529.

The first varsity four, second varsity four and third varsity eight all took second in the afternoon session as well. Coxswained by Megan Dorheim in both outings, the third eights improved on their time from the morning by four seconds and moved up from fourth. Both crews of four placed in third in their first races. Times of 07:49.575 and 07:50.121 are season lows for the first varsity four.

OU's second varsity eight posted fourth and fifth place finishes with times of 07:02.214 and 07:03.485. Both times are season bests for the group.
