Elam Named Finalist for Senior CLASS Award

April 14, 2022 | Softball

NORMAN — Oklahoma softball senior captain Lynnsie Elam has been selected as one of the 10 finalists for the 2022 Senior CLASS Award for softball student-athletes. The organization announced the finalists Thursday.

The award honors NCAA Division I seniors or graduate students that have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.

Elam, a three-year captain for the Sooners, has excelled both on and off the field throughout her time in Norman.

The Chickasha, Okla., native has played in nearly 200 games and started 150 in her five seasons. She holds a career batting average of .306 to go with 37 home runs and 122 RBIs. In her primary position at catcher, she ranks second in program history with a .993 career fielding percentage, registering 1,051 putouts and 68 assists to just eight errors. She is a two-time Women's College World Series participant, helping the Sooners to their fifth national title in program history in 2021.

Off the field, Elam is an exceptional student and member of the local community. A double major in health and exercise science and psychology, she holds a 3.87 GPA and is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection.

The Sooner catcher uses her platform to give back to the younger generation with numerous speaking engagements at local high school and elementary schools, speaking on her faith and experience as a Division I student-athlete and national champion. Additionally, Elam is an active member in the University of Oklahoma's Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Fan voting is now open here and will run through May 23 with the 2022 Senior CLASS Award being announced prior to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City in June. The fan vote will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winner.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
