Lyons, May Combine to Sweep Big 12 Honors

NORMAN — Oklahoma senior Grace Lyons and sophomore Nicole May combined to sweep the Big 12 conference weekly honors after helping the Sooners to a 4-0 week and historic 36-0 start to the season.

Lyons collected conference player of the week accolades after an impressive week where she batted .600 (6-for-10) with four home runs, five RBIs with nine runs scored to go with a pair of walks and no strikeouts.

The Peoria, Ariz., native hit a homer in each of OU's three conference games at Texas Tech, including a pair in game one. She has already surpassed her single-season career high in home runs (14, 2021) with 17 on the year. The defensive anchor for the Sooners at short, Lyons also helped OU turn two double plays on the weekend.

May was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after collecting two wins in the circle for the Sooners. In two appearances and one start, May pitched an individual shutout and combined on a no-hitter. The sophomore struck out eight on the week and allowed just three hits and three walks in 7.1 innings pitched. Opponents batted just .130 against the Pleasanton, Calif., native and she surrendered just two extra-base hits to the 27 batters she faced.

May collects her second career conference weekly accolade while Lyons earns her first. Oklahoma has swept three of the Big 12's nine weekly honors on the season and an OU player or pitcher has shared the honors six of the nine weeks.

No. 1 OU meets No. 19/19 Texas in Austin, April 14-16. The teams play Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. CT before a 1 p.m. finale on Saturday. All three games can be seen on Longhorn Network and heard via 107.7 The Franchise in Oklahoma and nationwide on The Varsity app.
