NORMAN — OU redshirt senior Jocelyn Alo was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week for her performances vs. Tulsa and Texas Tech. The NFCA announced the honor on Tuesday.
The reigning national player of the year continued her dominant season at the plate in OU's four wins on the week, helping the Sooners to an historic 36-0 start. Alo batted .615 (8-for-13) with five home runs and eight RBIs, totaling six extra-base hits for a 1.846 SLG%. In Wednesday's game vs. Tulsa with the Sooners playing the short game to beat the Oklahoma wind, Alo laid down a perfectly-executed squeeze bunt.
She registered her first career game with three home runs in OU's Friday win vs. Texas Tech and followed it with a two-HR performance Sunday. She holds the NCAA lead with 21 home runs on the season and 109 in her career.
It marks Alo's third NFCA weekly accolade of the season and fourth of her career.
No. 1 OU meets No. 18/18 Texas in Austin, April 14-16. The teams play Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. CT before a 1 p.m. finale on Saturday. All three games can be seen on Longhorn Network and heard via 107.7 The Franchise in Oklahoma and nationwide on The Varsity app.
