LAS VEGAS — The top-ranked Oklahoma men's golf, led by the new unanimous No. 1 golfer in the nation Chris Gotterup, tees off Sunday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas. The three-day, 54-hole event at the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club pits No. 1 OU against six other top-25 teams, including No. 5 Pepperdine. The 15-team field tees off Sunday morning in round one.

The individual champion will receive an exemption into the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which will take place Oct. 6-9, 2022, at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

The Sooners will look to continue their momentum this week following a spring-opening victory at the Puerto Rico Classic. Head coach Ryan Hybl's team fired a school-record 59 under par over three rounds at the PRC, led by medalist Chris Gotterup. The win marked the program's third of the season, 46th all-time and 32nd of the Hybl era, which began in 2009-10. Gotterup's victory earned him an invite to the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open, slated for March 3-6.

The Oklahoma lineup features three All-Americans, including Gotterup, Logan McAllister and Patrick Welch. Those three will be joined by Drew Goodman and Ben Lorenz, a freshman and sophomore, respectively. In addition, Stephen Campbell Jr. joins the tournament as an individual.

HISTORY

Oklahoma is no stranger to Southern Highlands. The team won the 2019 event when Quade Cummins sunk a 20-foot birdie putt on the 54th hole to guide the Sooners past Texas to win the team title. The Sooners have appeared in the last six Southern Highland Collegiate Championships.

The 2020 event was the Sooners' last event before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down collegiate athletics and the Sooners finished seventh in that event, marking the last time OU finished outside of the top three in a regular-season event.

FORMAT

Fifty-four holes will be played over three days. The Sooners tee off in round one (Sunday) at 11:50 a.m. CT with Lorenz starting things off. Oklahoma is matched up with San Diego and No. 24 Florida on Sunday.
