NORMAN –  (RV/RV) Oklahoma (12-4, 2-2 Big 12) hosts its second team AP top 10 foe in a week when the Sooners welcome No. 5 Baylor (16-2, 4-2 Big 12) to Lloyd Noble Center Saturday, Jan. 22. 

OU hosted No. 7 Kansas Tuesday, Jan. 18 and narrowly pulled an upset over the Jayhawks, who won 67-64. The Sooners caught fire in the second half and tallied a 20-2 run to take the lead from KU, but a timely 3-pointer at the end gave Kansas the advantage late.

Jordan Goldwire led the Sooners with a career-high 15 points and tallied the final eight OU points. Umoja Gibson added 11 points and Jalen Hill 10. 

Doors to the arena open one hour before tip and the Lloyd Noble Center's clear-bag policy is in effect.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

  • No. 5/6 Baylor (16-2, 4-2 Big 12) opened the 2021-22 season winning its first 15 games before dropping back-to-back games against Big 12 foes Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. The Bears rebounded with a 77-68 win over West Virginia Jan. 18 in Morgantown, W.Va.
  • Four Bears average double-figure points and are led by the duo of James Akinjo (13.9) and LJ Cryer (13.9). Akinjo is also the team leader in steals (35) and assists (97). Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua boasts 7.7 rebounds per game.
  • Baylor leads the Big 12 in assist to turnover ratio (1.38), assists per game (17.7), scoring margin (19.4), 3-pointers per game (9.0), 3-pointers made (162), 3-point attempts (439), total assists (318) and total rebounds (696).

BAYLOR VS. OKLAHOMA TIDBITS

  • Oklahoma and Baylor will meet for the second time this season and second time in 19 days. The Bears won the first meeting in Waco, Texas 84-74.
  • Senior guard Umoja Gibson is from Waco, Texas. In the Jan. 4 meeting, Gibson scored 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting and added five assists, four steals and a rebound.
  • In the Feb. 26, 2005 clash between OU and Baylor, the Sooners tallied a program record 66.1% (39-for-59) field goal percentage. The Sooners had five players finish in double figures and were led by Taj Gray's 16 points on 6-for-6 shooting.

NOTHING BUT NET

  • Oklahoma is ranked 38th in the NET rankings (1/20) with a 5-5 record in the first two quads. OU is ranked sixth in the Big 12 and Baylor is first (4th overall). Five teams in the Big 12 rank in the top 25 of the NET rankings and the Big 12 has an average rating of 32.3.
