PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Logan McAllister led Oklahoma men's golf on the final day of the Carmel Cup, earning medalist honors after winning a playoff and shooting 4-under in the final round Sunday. The Sooners secured a second-place finish with a 17-under, 1,062 total through the three-round tournament at the par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Through 36 holes, OU held a second-place ranking heading into the final day of competition Sunday. On Sunday, the Sooners recorded the third-best round of the day, finishing with an 11-under 349 to finish the tournament one stroke behind Oklahoma State.

"It's so good for us to be back in the mix today coming down the stretch," head coach Ryan Hybl said. "'We started a bit slow as a squad, but really did a phenomenal job on the tough holes and our finish was very good. I'm so proud of our two freshmen, Drew Goodman and Stephen Campbell Jr., and how they performed this week."

McAllister, Drew Goodman and Stephen Campbell Jr. all finished in the top 10, with Campbell Jr. making a seven-spot jump up the leaderboard after shooting a final round 69.

McAllister, who headed into the final round holding a share of second after shooting a 3-under 69 Saturday, fired his best round of the tournament Sunday. His back-to-back rounds of 69 were topped by a 4-under 68 to tie with Trent Phillips of Georgia at 10-under 206 for the tournament. McAllister forced the playoff after securing three birdies in his final four holes, making five birdies on the day. McAllister excelled on par 4s, holding the tournament's second-best scoring average (3.87) while going 4-under overall on the holes.

"Logan did a great job all week long and hit the ball so well all three days," Hybl added. "He had to make a 30-footer on 18 to force a playoff and looked like a tour pro in the playoff. His experience is really paying off and looked great this week."

It's the senior's third win of his career, with both previous wins coming at the Nike Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Dallas in 2019 and 2020.

"I'm excited to keep building on the work that we've put in all summer to get to this spot," McAllister said. "I didn't really have a great summer, but there is something about team golf that frees me up to play well. Being around teammates and coaches brings out the best in me and that's all credit to them to to coach Hybl for the culture that he's built here."

The win comes in the Sooners' season-opening event and the Oklahoma City product second win in season-opening events.

"I'm not really sure why I always play well at the start of the year," McAllister said. "I've loved winning the first event now in each of the last two years, but this year I'm excited to keep that momentum going and win more. Most important, I want to help us win team titles. I'm pumped for how all our guys finished today because we had such a great run to close the gap and just fell one shot short. It was awesome to see the fight out of the young guys, especially Drew and Steve."

Goodman finished tied for sixth after shooting a 4-under 212 through the tournament, recording a 2-under 70 on the final day. After going even on the front nine, Goodman sunk birdies on 14 and 16 and netted a total of 14 birdies overall in his first collegiate event.

Campbell Jr. was even-par through the first 36 holes and posted his best round of the tournament on the final day, tallying a 3-under 69, which included four birdies on the front nine.

Transfer Chris Gotterup tied for 14th with a 2-under 214 and netted four birdies on the front nine. Patrick Welch tied for 27th with a 2-over 218, and Blake Lorenz finished 47th after shooting a 15-over 231.

The Sooners held the best scoring average on par 5s (4.69), going 22-under through the tournament. With the runner-up finish, the Sooners notch the 38th top-three team finish in the last four seasons, the most in the country during that stretch.

Hybl's team now shifts its focus to the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational, which starts on Sept. 13 at Maridoe Golf Club. Golf Channel will carry live coverage of the event.
