BIG 12 OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS REWIND
Oklahoma's men's and women's track and field teams closed out the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Manhattan, Kan., with three Big 12 champions, a school record, a facility record and 34 top-8 finishes. The men's team finished with 105 points to take third, the Sooners' highest finish since the 2015 championships. The women claimed sixth with 76 points.
Senior Lauren Jones earned the Sooners' first championship of the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Championships, as well as the first title of the meet. Jones impressed en route to the title, throwing a personal best 217-2 (66.20m) and maintained the top spot throughout the duration of the event. The senior is the first Sooner on the women's side to win the title in the hammer throw, dating back to 1978.
On day two, redshirt senior Sydney King claimed the championship title in the women's pole vault, clearing a personal best 13-11.25 (4.25m). The last time a Sooner won the women's pole vault title at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships was in 2001. Additionally, King is just the second Sooner to win the outdoor event title. King was joined by seniors Abby Bilsbury and Colleen Clancy in the event, with both clearing 12-9.5 (3.90m).
OU's 33-year-old school record in the men's long jump was downed, following senior Rayvon Allen's impressive performance. Allen broke the record on his sixth jump, recording a distance of 26-10.5 (8.19m). He finished second overall and earned the No. 8 spot in the world. Senior Garry Williams jumped 23-4.75 (7.13m) in the event.
On the final day, redshirt senior Isaiah Levingston continued his impressive outdoor season, claiming the title in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Levingston, an Okla. native, clocked a personal best 49.12 en route to the title. His time downed the RV Christian Track facility record that was set in 1985. The last time a Sooner won the men's 400-meter hurdles title was Omar Brown in 1998.
