NORMAN — Oklahoma redshirt senior Shannon Saile has been named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Saile had a super senior weekend for the books. She recorded her OU career high in strikeouts in the Sooners' game two shutout of the Red Raiders, striking out 13 of the 25 batters she faced to go with just three hits allowed and two walks in a complete-game shutout.
Saile also made a relief appearance Sunday, striking out one in one inning pitched and retiring the final three batters for the OU sweep in run-rule fashion. Saile finished the weekend with a 0.00 ERA and just four hits allowed in 8.0 IP. Opponents batted just .148 against the super senior.
No. 1 Oklahoma returns to action tonight for a Tuesday doubleheader at Baylor in Waco. The Sooners and Bears face off at 4 p.m. CT for game one before a scheduled start time of 6:30 p.m. for game two. Both games will be shown to a national audience on ESPNU with Beth Mowins and Michele Smith on the call.
The action can be heard on The Franchise 2 (103.3 FM, 1560 AM) in Oklahoma and nationwide on the TuneIn app with OU play-by-play announcer Chris Plank calling the action.
