Gotterup Honored as Big 12 Golfer of the Month
November 03, 2021 | Men's Golf
NORMAN – Oklahoma redshirt senior golfer Chris Gotterup was named the Big 12 Conference's Men's Golfer of the Month for October, it was announced by the league office Wednesday.
The All-American notched an individual championship at the East Lake Cup, a third-place finish at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational and boasted a 4-1 record at the Big 12 Match Play Championship for the month. His strong performances saw him become Golfweek's No. 1 college golfer in the country as the fall season closed.
Gotterup, who transferred to Oklahoma from Rutgers for his final year of eligibility, was the 2020 Big Ten Player of the Year Award and a PING All-American as a junior. His vs. par mark of -1.22 is the best among qualifying Sooners as he helped power Ryan Hybl's team to a unanimous No. 1 team ranking in October. It's the second monthly accolade of his career as he was the Big Ten's Golfer of the Month once as a Scarlet Knight. The honor delivers the 10th Big 12 Golfer of the Month of the Hybl era, which began in 2009.
The Little Silver, N.J., product and the Sooners closed their fall slate with two team championships, two runner-up placements and a bronze medal at the Big 12 Match Play Championship. Gotterup helped OU to the team title at the East Lake Cup by defeating Oklahoma State's Hazen Newman to deliver the cup-winning point.
OU returns to action Feb. 13 at the Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar River Course to open the spring season. Hybl's team will look to make its 11th consecutive NCAA Championship and sixth straight NCAA Match Play in May.
