NORMAN — The No. 1 Oklahoma men's golf team is tied for seventh place at the end of the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate. The three-day, 54-hole event is taking place at the par-72, 7,374-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas.

OU shot 298 (+10) on Sunday against an elite 15-team field that features nine teams in the top 25 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, including all top five schools.

Southern California sits atop the team leaderboard at 287 (-1), followed by No. 4 Texas five strokes back in second place at 292 (+4). UCLA, No. 22 Florida and No. 7 Texas Tech round out the top five.Ā 

Senior Quade CumminsĀ andĀ sophomore Patrick WelchĀ paced the Sooners and are tied for fourteenth place individually after 18 holes at 73 (+1). Cummins recorded a pair of birdies on Sunday. Welch totaled three birdies with a pair on the back nine.

Senior Garett Reband posted a 74 (+2) during the first round. Reband is tied for 21st and carded one birdie during his round.

Sophomore Logan McAllister and freshman Jake Holbrook carded a 78 (+6) and hold a share of 59th place after the opening round. The duo had a combined six birdies during Sunday's round.Ā 

The second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate is scheduled for Monday. The Sooners will tee off from hole No. 1 at 11:00 a.m. CT. OU will be paired with No. 5 Duke and No. 13 SMU during Monday's round.
