NORMAN - Oklahoma led at the intermission but eventually fell to No. 18 Iowa State, 22-14, in Big 12 dual action on Sunday afternoon in Norman.

The Sooners (3-6 overall, 1-5 Big 12) went 2-1 in ranked matchups, but suffered four major-decision defeats throughout the day stifling a late comeback attempt. The Cyclones (7-3 overall, 4-1 Big 12) earned their first win in Norman since 2015.Ā

"There were some weight classes that I enjoyed watching and I thought their effort was good." OU head coach Lou Rosselli said after the match. "There were a couple of places that we could've been better though, which is disappointing."

The dual started when OU's Christian Moody suffered a 14-4 defeat at the hands of No. 8 Alex Mackall at 125.

No. 15 Anthony Madrigal got things going for the Sooners at 133 when he secured his team-high 10thĀ win over a ranked opponent. He took No. 16 Todd Small down in the final frame to secure an 8-6 decision. With the victory, Madrigal joined four other Sooners with seven wins in dual action this season.Ā

The bout at 141 featured the lone top-10 matchup of the day when No. 7 Dom Demas (OU) and No. 8 Ian Parker (ISU) squared off. Three periods weren't enough for Demas, as he needed extra time to win his 20th match of the season. As time ticked toward zero on the clock in sudden victory, Demas scored a takedown for a 6-4 win.

OU's Jacob Butler faced a tough test at 149 when he met No. 7 Jarrett Degen. Butler scored a couple of escape points but lost 9-4.Ā

The Sooners got back on track at 157 when Justin Thomas pinned Grant Stotts in the second frame for a 12-7 lead at intermission. It was Thomas' third pin of the season and first since Jan. 5 vs. Ohio's Zac Carson.

After the break, Elijah Joseph took the mat at 165 for the second consecutive week, but fell 11-1 to Iowa State's Chase Straw.

In the last ranked match of the day, No. 10 Anthony Mantanona (OU) suffered a 7-5 defeat in sudden victory. The Sooners were also deducted a team point for loss of bench control, which moved the score to a 14-11 Iowa State advantage heading into the final three bouts.Ā

True freshman Darrien Roberts was up next for the Sooners agaunst No. 24 Marcus Coleman, but he dropped a 14-4 a major decision.Ā

No. 15 Jake WoodleyĀ found the last win of the night for Oklahoma at 197. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native secured a 7-3 decision over Joel Shapiro, bringing the Sooners within striking distance at 18-14 heading into the day's last match.Ā

The final bout of the day was a heavyweight battle that resulted in Josiah Jones dropping a 14-3 major decision to give the Cyclones a 22-14 team victory.Ā
