NORMAN — Oklahoma junior captain Lynnsie Elam was named Big 12 Player of the Week for week two, the conference announced Tuesday.
Elam continued her impressive start to the season at the Hillenbrand Invitational for the Sooners, posting seven hits, seven RBIs, four home runs and eight total runs. Elam homered in four of No. 3/3 OU's five games and posted two games with multiple hits, including a three-RBI performance vs. UNI on Friday.
The junior helped OU climb back to top No. 4/4 Arizona in Tucson with a home run in the sixth inning to pull the Sooners to within one run in a game that OU won, 6-4, in ten innings. In the field, the catcher made key putouts behind the plate all weekend, including a put out at home in the bottom of the eighth inning to prevent the Wildcats from scoring the walk-off run.
Elam leads the team and is tied for sixth nationally with five home runs.
Oklahoma returns to the field Feb. 21-23 in Palm Springs, Calif., for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Sooners will play five games in three days, highlighted by a top-five matchup against No. 2/1 Washington on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
