NORMAN ā The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Thursday that Oklahoma senior forward
Brady Manek is one of 20 players named to its watch list for the 2021 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award.
Named after two-time NBA MVP Karl Malone, the annual honor recognizes the top power forwards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
Manek is one of four Big 12 players named to the watch list, joined by Baylor's Mark Vital, Texas' Greg Brown and West Virginia's Oscar Tshiebwe.
Hailing from Harrah, Okla., Manek has been a staple of
Lon Kruger's squad the last three seasons. He has started in 91 of OU's last 97 games and boasts career averages of 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 3-point field goals.
Manek enters his senior year with 1,188 career points (31st in OU history) and 187 3-pointers (seventh in OU history). He is the only player in program history to accumulate at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 150 3-pointers and 75 blocks.
Last season, Manek averaged 14.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks while sinking 71 3-pointers at a 38% clip. He was an All-Big 12 Third selection and ranked third in the Big 12 in field goal percentage, eighth in scoring, ninth in blocks and 12th in rebounding.
Manek was also named to the preseason watch list for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award last season.
The watch list will be narrowed to 10 by mid-February. In March, five finalists will be presented to Malone and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2021 Karl Malone Award will be presented on Friday, April 9, 2021.Ā Previous winners of the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award include Obi Toppin (2020), Zion Williamson (2019), Deandre Ayton (2018), Johnathan Motley (2017), Georges Niang (2016) and Montrezl Harrell (2015).
