The University of Oklahoma soccer team plays its final match of the 2020 fall season on Sunday afternoon in Lawrence, Kan., against the No. 15 Kansas Jayhawks. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start and will air live on Big 12 NOW on ESPN+.
The Sooners are coming off a tight 1-0 Bedlam loss to No. 11 Oklahoma State on Thursday night in Norman while the Jayhawks enter the contest following a 1-1 draw with Iowa State in Lawrence on Nov. 6.
The teams last met Oct. 10, 2019, a 1-0 Kansas victory in overtime on John Crain Field in Norman. The Jayhawks found the golden goal with two minutes remaining in the first overtime period to take the win. Senior Erika Yost fired four shots in the match to lead the Sooners.
The University of Oklahoma soccer team was edged by No. 11 Oklahoma State, 1-0, in its final home match of the 2020 season Thursday night at John Crain Field.
It was another aggressive Bedlam match with a combined 19 fouls committed. The match was scoreless into the second half before OSU connected on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute by Grace Yochum following a handball in the box.
The Sooners and keeper Nikki Panas held another top-ranked squad to just one goal on 18 shots. OU got 12 looks with five being on goal in the match.
Juniors Bri Amos and Lauren Tovy and sophomore Maya McCutcheon registered three shots, each putting one on goal. Freshman Cailey England had two looks with one on goal, while senior Yuuka Kurosaki took one shot on frame.
McCutcheon and Kurosaki had arguably OU's best looks on the night in the second half, firing strikes from outside the 18 box that made the OSU keeper work for the saves.
Panas played another solid game in goal for the Sooners. She recorded five saves with a few leaping stops in one-on-one situations that kept the match scoreless in the first half and early in the second.
The match marked OU's sixth loss by a single goal this season and makes four consecutive matches that ended 1-0 in the opponents favor.
University of Oklahoma head soccer coach Mark Carr and the Sooners signed nine incoming freshmen who will join the team for 2021 on Wednesday's National Signing Day.
The Sooners signed talented prospects from across the U.S. and internationally. Three future Sooners join the program from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, two from Ontario, Canada, two local products from the state of Oklahoma and one signee a piece from Minnesota and Stavanger, Norway.
Anniston Flake, Une Hebnes Georgsen, Madison McMahand, Keera Melenhorst, Sheridan Michel, Ella Pappas, Anna Perry, Olivia Rowe and Bailey Wesco will all join the Sooners in the fall of 2021.
