FARGO, N.D. -Ā The Oklahoma wrestling team (3-3 overall, 1-2 Big 12) fell to North Dakota State (4-3 overall, 1-1 Big 12), 24-15, at Scheels Center in Fargo, N.D., on Friday night. The Sooners climbed back from a 15-3 deficit to tie it at 15-15, but dropped the dual's final three matches by decision.Ā

Dom Demas put the Sooners ahead 3-0 with an 11-5 decision over NDSU's Dylan Droegemueller to open the match in the 141 bout. The redshirt sophomore collected five takedowns en route to his team-leading 17th win on the season.Ā
The Bison claimedĀ the next three bouts, including two via fall. At 149, NDSU's Jaden Van Maanen pinned No. 25
Jacob Butler in 1:27, while No. 11 Andrew FogartyĀ defeated
Jose Lao Cooper by fall (3:32) at 165 pounds. Between the pair of falls, North Dakota State's Jared FranekĀ outlasted No. 19
Justin Thomas in a 3-1 decision at 157 pounds. Through four bouts, the Bison held on to a 15-3 lead.
With the Sooners in need of a spark, No. 10
Anthony MantanonaĀ (174)Ā secured his team-leading eighth fall of the season, pinning NDSU's Lorenzo De La Riva in 4:04, cutting into the Bison lead, 15-9, and building momentum for the Sooners into intermission.
Out of the break, true freshman
Darrien Roberts put together a stellar match at 184Ā to bring OU within three. Heading into the third period tied at 2-2, Roberts started on bottom and scored what would be the decidingĀ escape point. With riding time accumulatedĀ from earlier in the match, Roberts claimed the 4-2 decision to make it a 15-12 Bison lead.Ā
At 197,
Jake WoodleyĀ pulled out a clutch 6-2 decision over Cordell Eaton to tie the dual up at 15-15. Leading 3-2 with 1:25 remaining, WoodleyĀ added a takedown to go ahead 5-2 before the riding time point was added.Ā
In the heavyweight bout,
Josiah Jones dropped a tough battle with No. 22 Brandon Metz, 3-2. After a scoreless first and a pair of escapes from each wrestler to open the next two periods, Metz scored a takedown with one minute remaining to pull away and secure the match.Ā It was the second 3-2 decision between the pair of wrestlers this season, with Metz also claiming victory in the consolation rounds of the Cliff Keen Invitational on Dec. 6, 2019.Ā
Down 18-15 with two bouts remaining, OU'sĀ
Christian Moody entered the third period of his 125-pound match with McGwire MidkiffĀ tied at 0-0. MidkiffĀ escaped early in the third and added on the riding time point to finish off the 2-0 decision and put the Bison ahead, 21-15.Ā
In the dual's only top-25 matchup, No. 17
Anthony Madrigal was defeated by No. 11 Cam Sykora, 6-4. Madrigal jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a first-period takedown, but allowed six unanswered points by Sykora. It was only Madrigal's second loss to a ranked opponent on the season, moving him to a still-impressive 8-2 against FloWrestling top-25 wrestlers.Ā
