Sooners Travel to Nike Collegiate Invitational

NORMAN — The No. 9 Oklahoma men's golf team travels to Portland, Ore., this week for the annual Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will take place Sep. 29 through Oct. 1 (Sunday-Tuesday) at the par-71, 7,109-yard Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

The event features a competitive field with nine of the 15 teams ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. Including five of the nation's top 10 teams.

The Sooners have already collected two top three finishes this season. The team began the season by taking second place at the Carmel Cup in Pebble Beach, Calif., then tied for third at the Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minn. Senior Thomas Johnson was the top OU individual in Minnesota, finishing tied for sixth, his career best finish in the Sooner lineup. Fellow senior Garett Reband has collected two top ten finishes and leads the team with the lowest scoring average, 69.83.

OU's lineup for the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational will include Johnson and Reband along with senior Quade Cummins and sophomores Patrick Welch and Logan McAlister.

OU is paired with Clemson and Ohio State for the first round of the Nike Collegiate Invitational. The first round will begin at 10:40 a.m. CT on hole 10.

Fifty-four holes will be played over three days. The first round will begin Sunday morning at 10:40 CT on hole ten.

OU'S NIKE GOLF COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL HISTORY

This marks the Sooners' sixth consecutive appearance in the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational. In 2017, the team finished first at the Witch Hollow course at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore. Last season, the team finished in sixth at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
