OU Rowing Announces 2019-20 Slate

September 27, 2019 | Rowing

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma rowing team announced Friday the team's 2019-20 fall and spring slate.

"We're excited to get the fall season underway," said OU rowing head coach Leeanne Crain. "We've added a couple of races to the fall calendar including a trip to Boston to compete in the prestigious Head of the Charles. We've got a very competitive spring schedule that should prepare us well for the Big 12 Championship in May."

The Sooners will begin their fall season with the annual Head of the Oklahoma in Oklahoma City on the Oklahoma River. The regatta will be held Oct. 5 beginning at 8 a.m. and will be the only home regatta of the 2019 fall season.

The team will split for racing in Lawrence, Kan., and Boston, Mass., on Oct. 20.

Those traveling to Lawrence will compete at the Jayhawk Jamboree, held on the Kansas River at Burcham Park. At last year's Jayhawk Jamboree, the Sooners had a solid showing, bringing home four medal finishes in the 1V8, 1V4 and 1N8 racing.

The rest of the team will compete at the renowned Head of the Charles in Boston on Oct. 20 at 8 a.m. CT. The Sooners return to Boston for the regatta for the first time since 2012.

OU will wrap up it's fall season in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Head of the Hooch on Nov. 2-3. Another well-known national regatta, the Sooners will be racing at the Hooch for the first time since 2014.

The team will return to the water in 2020 on March 7 for a scrimmage in OKC versus Kansas State and SMU at 8 a.m. on the Oklahoma River before traveling to the West Coast for the Pac-12 Challenge in Redwood Shores, Calif., on March 28-29.

The Sooners will return to the Crew Classic for the 47th edition of the regatta in San Diego, Calif., on April 4-5.

OU's final two regular season regattas will be in Clemson, S.C., and Austin, Texas at the Clemson Invitational and Longhorn Invitational. The Clemson Invite will be held April 18-19 on Lake Hartwell, while the Longhorn Invite will begin on April 25 on Walter E. Long Lake in Austin.

The postseason will begin on May 17 at the 2020 Big 12 Rowing Championship in Austin, Texas, on Lake Walter E. Long Lake. The Sooners took second at last year's Big 12 Championship, with four Sooners earning All-Big 12 honors following the regatta, including then-sophomore Nicole Molina being tabbed Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

The Big 12 champion team will automatically qualify on to the 2020 NCAA Rowing Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on May 29-31. Other teams will be selected on an at-large basis for the championship.
