NORMAN ā The No. 7 Oklahoma men's golf team finished in second place out of eight teams at the Carmel Cup. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the iconic par-72, 6,828-yard Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.Ā
In Sunday's final round, the Sooners recorded a 352 (-8). OU finished with a three-day total of 1051 (-29), just six strokes back of Texas Tech's 1045 (-35). Arkansas placed third, one shot behind the Sooners, while Georgia and TCU rounded out the top five.Ā
"This was a great start to the year and lots of positives from the week," OU head coach Ryan Hybl. "Our guys had the opportunity to feel some heat today and that is very valuable for us moving forward. Time to get ready for Minnesota."Ā
Freshman Turner Hosch was OU's top finisher, earning a share of third place with a three-round 205 (-11) in his first tournament as a Sooner. Hosch carded a birdie on each of the last four holes during Sunday's final round, posting a 69 (-3) for his third straight round under par.Ā
Senior Garett Reband took home seventh. For the fourth year in a row, Reband earned a top-10 finish, recording a three-day total of 206 (-10). Reband shot a 71 (-1) in the final round of action.Ā
Fellow senior Quade Cummins shot a two-under par, 70. The Weatherford, Okla. native tied for 11th place at 210 (-6). Freshman Jake Holbrook carded a 76 (+4) on Sunday to finish in 25th.Ā
Sophomore Blake Lorenz finished the tournament with an overall 220 (+4), sharing 33rd place. Lorenz posted a 69 (-3) to round out OU's lineup.Ā
Senior Thomas Johnson shot a one-over par, 73, in the last day of play. Johnson recorded a three-round total of 223 (+7) to finish in 37th place.Ā
OU heads to Hopkins,Ā Minnesota, Sept. 8-10, for the Gopher Invitational.
