McGreevy Earns First PGA Tour Series-China Win
July 22, 2019 | Men's Golf
NORMAN - Former Oklahoma men's golfer Max McGreevy claimed his first victory on the PGA Tour-China Series over the weekend, after he was declared the winner at the rain-shortened Guangzou Open.
McGreevy finished with a two-round 129 (-9) to take the win as he moved into the No. 1 spot on the PGA Tour-China Series Order of Merit. Four different weather delays shortened the event to 36 holes. McGreevy opened with a 62 (-7) before following up with a 67 (-2) during the second round of play.
“I'm a little upset that we didn't get to get more rounds in, but it ended up how it is and I can't do anything about it. It's unfortunate, and I would have liked to play against all these guys. It would have been a really good test,” said McGreevy, who understood how important the opening two rounds could be. “I was trying to get to the top after two rounds just in case something like this happened, and it's lucky for me but stinks for everybody else. I've also been in their position but I'm happy to finally be able to lift the trophy.”
McGreevy is third Sooner to win on the PGA Tour-China Series in the last four years, joining Luke Kwon (2019) and Charlie Saxon (2016).
McGreevy was a member of OU's 2017 NCAA Championship team and a two-time Division I PING All-American selection.
