Green a Top-25 Finalist for Freshman of the Year

AUSTIN, Texas — Oklahoma utility player Grace Green has been named one of 25 candidates for the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year, the NFCA announced Thursday.

In conference games this season, Green currently leads the Big 12 in batting average (.583), on-base percentage (.645), slugging percentage (1.542), home runs (seven), RBIs (18) and total bases (37).

Overall, Green's 2019 slash line (AVG/OBP/SLG) is .441/.525/.833; her season batting average and on-base percentage both rank second on the team while her slugging percentage is third.

She leads all Big 12 freshmen this year in the following offensive categories: batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits (45), home runs (12), runs scored (37), RBIs (38) and total bases (85).

A product of Oakdale, Calif., Green has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week twice in 2019. She most recently garnered the accolade on Tuesday after leading the league in slugging percentage (2.143), total bases (15), home runs (three) and runs (five) last week.

Green is one of just two freshmen from the Big 12 to be named a finalist for Freshman of the Year, joining Texas pitcher Shealyn O'Leary.

This is the sixth season that the NFCA will name a Freshman of the Year; Oklahoma's Paige Parker (2015) and Jocelyn Alo (2018) have both received the accolade.

The top 10 finalists will be unveiled on May 9, while the top three will be revealed on May 21. The 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year will be announced on May 28.
