Sooners XC Takes Eighth and Ninth at Big 12s

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma cross country teams began postseason competition Saturday morning at the 2019 Big 12 Cross Country Championships at Cottonwood Creek Golf Club in Waco, Texas.
The OU men finished eighth at the meet, led by redshirt sophomore Ackeen Colley's 37th-place finish in 25:03.1. Redshirt senior Zach Gentry crossed the line right behind Colley in 41st in 25:11.6. Three other Sooners finished in the top 70 of the men's championship 8K race: Tyler Phillips in 46th (25:20.7), Andrew Doherty in 58th (25:55.5) and Jordan Gledhill placing 69th (26:36.5).
The Sooner women's team placed ninth in the championship's 6K race, paced by sophomore Elise Boisvert's 48th-place spot in 22:14.8. Freshmen Madeline Medina and Elise Welch were OU's second- and third-best finishers, taking 66th and 69th with respective times of 23:09.0 and 23:13.1.
Oklahoma will continue postseason competition Nov. 15 in Stillwater, Okla., at the 2019 NCAA Midwest Regional on the OSU Cross Country Course. Racing will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT.
