Rowing Season Begins with Head of the Oklahoma

October 04, 2019 | Rowing

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma rowing team begins their 2019-20 season Saturday in Oklahoma City at the annual Head of the Oklahoma.

"We've had a couple of really great practices and the team is excited to race," said OU head coach Leeanne Crain. "The Head of the Oklahoma comes early in the season, but it's always good to see where we stack up against some of the top Big 12 teams and other regional opponents after just a few weeks of training."

Racing for the Sooners will begin at 11 a.m. on the Oklahoma River and and regatta will continue through the day with the collegiate fours racing at 3:40 p.m. and into the evening where the OG&E NightSprints will cap off Saturday at approximately 8 p.m.

The Sooners return plenty of experience for the 19-20 season. Last year's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Nicole Molina looks to continue the solid start to her career, as well as three All-Big 12 rowers in 2018: senior Katherine Denney and juniors Breah McKay and Maria Pergouli.

OU boasts nine varsity seniors on the season and brought in an exceptional 2019 recruiting class with international experience.

Fans can park at the OU Boathouse at 1409 Exchange Ave., Oklahoma City, Okla. for the day racing and at the Chesapeake Boathouse for the night sprints.
