OU Wins Nike Collegiate Invitational

NORMAN ā The No. 9 Oklahoma men's golf team won its first team title of the season and sophomore Logan McAllister finished as the individual medalist at the Nike Collegiate Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the par-71, 7,109-yard Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland, Ore.Ā
The Sooners have now collected two tournament titles at the Nike Collegiate Invitational in the last three years.Ā
OU won the tournament by five shots, finishing with a three-day score of 823 (-29), its lowest 54-hole total of the season. The Sooners fired a 286 (+2) during Tuesday's final round to secure the team lead.Ā
"Our guys did a great job this week but all the credit goes back into the work we have been doing at home," head coach Ryan Hybl said. "This group has been very competitive in practice and it showed up this week."Ā
Wake Forest took second place at 828 (-25), followed by Clemson at 835 (-17). Oklahoma State finished fourth with a three-day score of 840 (-12), while Texas and Vanderbilt tied for fifth at 843 (-9).Ā
Competing in his first event of the season for the Sooners, sophomore Logan McAllister earned the first individual tournament title of his career with a three-round 202 (-11).Ā
McAllister finished each round of play at the top of the leaderboard to propel the sophomore to the first-place finish. The Oklahoma City, Okla., native posted a 70 (-1) in the final round to claim the title outright.Ā
"So proud of Logan and his work," Hybl said. "He has not been in our lineup for 10 months, had to retool his golf game and has done everything we have asked of him. Just very proud of his work this week and I know his confidence will be sky high moving forward."Ā
Senior Garett Reband finished in sole possession of third place with an overall 204 (-9). The senior posted a 71 (E) during Tuesday's final round. Reband collected five birdies on the day to earn his third top-10 finish of the season.Ā
Fellow senior Quade Cummins carded an even par, 71, in Tuesday's round, posting a 54-hole 209 (-4) to tie for 15th place. Cummins birdied the final hole to earn his lowest tournament round of the season.Ā
Thomas Johnson recorded a 213 (E) for the tournament to tie for 23rd place. Johnson recorded a 74 (+3) to close out the event in the final round.Ā
Sophomore Patrick Welch claimed a share of 36th place at 215 (+2). He rounded out OU's lineup with a 76 (+5) during Tuesday's final 18 holes.Ā
Oklahoma continues its fall slate next week at the Big 12 Match Play Championship. The tournament takes place in Hockley, Texas Oct. 11-13 (Friday ā Sunday).
