NORMAN — The Oklahoma softball team completed an undefeated performance at the annual Fall Festival Tournament on Saturday, earning a pair of victories over Seminole State (10-0) and Northern Oklahoma College (22-1) at Marita Hynes Field.
Senior Caleigh Clifton was 5-for-5 on the day, scoring four runs. Fale Aviu, Jocelyn Alo and Eliyah Flores finished the day with a team-best four RBIs each.
Shannon Saile struck out 15 of 19 batters faced in the Sooners' first game of the day. The junior allowed just two hits in a six-inning shutout performance.
Lynnsie Elam led the Sooner offense with three RBIs while Kylie Lundberg added a pair. Clifton led the Sooners with three hits while Alo, Lundberg, Elam, Raegan Rogers and Sydney Romero each had two.
The Sooners opened scoring with a run in each of the first two innings before adding a pair in the third. The OU offense earned five runs in the fifth before Lundberg drove in Grace Lyons in the sixth to seal the 10-0 run-rule win.
The OU offense exploded for 22 runs in the nightcap, including nine runs in the third inning and eight in the fourth.
Four Sooners homered in the contest in Alo, Flores, Grace Green and Alexa Schultz. Alo finished with four RBIs while Flores, Schultz and Aviu all had three.
At the plate, Alo, Rogers and Audrie LaValley all finished 3-for-3, and Lyons went 3-for-4.
Freshman Brooke Vestal earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five over 3.0 innings pitched. Juniors Nicole Mendes and Mariah Lopez both tossed one inning in relief, both retiring the side and registering a pair of strikeouts.
