NORMAN – Oklahoma rowers Ruby Hays, Abby Lange, Maria Pergouli, Katja Ruebling and Sophie Salt were recognized by the College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) as All-Conference honorees, the organization announced this week.

The 2018 Division I All-Conference Teams replace the previous All-Region award given by the CRCA. Athletes who are selected to All-Conference teams are eligible for All-America awards selection.

Hays served as the coxswain for the 1V8 for the majority of the spring season. The Austin, Texas, native led the boat to a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship.

Abby Lange, a native of Edmond, Okla., stroked with the 1V8 and 2V8 this spring. She was part of seven top-three finishes, including a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship.

Freshmen Pergouli, Ruebling and Salt made a tremendous impact in their first season at Oklahoma. Rowing with the 1V8 and the 2V8, the trio helped the 1V8 to a runner-up finish at the Big 12 Championship.

In addition to All-Conference honors, Hays (elementary education) and Abby Lange (chemical biosciences) were joined by Andrea Batchev (chemical biosciences), Nina Chism (health and exercise sciences), Madeleine Lange (classics – latin) and Hannah Scholl (meteorology) as 2018 CRCA Scholar Athletes.

“I continue to be amazed with the academic success of our team,” head coach Leeanne Crain said. “Those receiving this national honor exemplify excellence both on and off the water and I'm extremely proud of them.”

The CRCA honors student-athletes who boast a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and have rowed in NCAA eligible boats for at least 75 percent of spring races as Scholar Athletes.

Batchev, Chism, Abby Lange and Madeline Lange each earned the award for the second consecutive season.
