Record 10 Sooners Earn Academic All-Big 12 Nod

NORMAN — A program-record 10 members of the Oklahoma softball team were named to the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference announced Thursday.
OU's 10 honorees tie for second-most in the league this season and surpass the previous school record of nine accolades set in 2016.
Additionally, seven student-athletes were named to the first team, matching a program record set in 2016.
Seniors Kelsey Arnold, Paige Parker, Nicole Pendley, Hannah Sparks and Lea Wodach and juniors Caleigh Clifton and Raegan Rogers all received first-team recognition.
Second-team selections included senior Paige Lowary, junior Kylie Lundberg and sophomore Nicole Mendes.
The Academic All-Big 12 selection is the third for Arnold, Parker, Pendley and Wodach. It is the second honor for Clifton and Rogers, while Sparks, Lowary, Lundberg and Mendes are all first-time honorees.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
