NORMAN – After a fantastic day of rowing at the Big 12 Championship, the Oklahoma rowing team won all five of its heats and will send every boat to tomorrow's grand finals. The regatta is being held on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The 1V8 started the day off with an impressive first-place finish in its preliminary heat, outpacing second-place Tennessee by over five seconds with a time of 6:46.443. Kansas State came in third, followed by Old Dominion.

In a tightly contested race, the 2V8 kept the momentum rolling with the Sooners' second straight victory, passing the line in 7:01.341. OU and Tennessee traded leads but the Sooners edged the Volunteers by just under two seconds. Kansas and West Virginia rounded out the heat.

OU's 1V4 claimed another victory for the Sooners, defeating Alabama, Kansas and Old Dominion in open-water fashion with a time of 7:36.77.

The 2V4 earned OU's second consecutive open-water victory, crossing the finish line in 7:43.633. Alabama, Kansas and West Virginia rounded out the competition.

In the last race of the day, the 3V8 wrapped up a perfect day one with a comeback victory, edging Alabama by two seconds with a time of 7:13.195. The boat was behind heading into the second half of the race, but overcame the Crimson Tide to complete a perfect day for OU. Kansas and Old Dominion finished third and fourth respectively.

"Everybody did their job today," head coach Leeanne Crain said. "Every boat put in a solid performance and I think we showed the strength of our program top to bottom. We will be ready to go tomorrow."
