Sooners Wrap Up Clemson Invitational

NORMAN – The Oklahoma rowing team wrapped up a full weekend of racing on Saturday at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C., highlighted by five top-three finishes and the 2V4's victory.
"I'm really proud of the team and how they stepped up and raced with a whole new level of intensity," head coach Leeanne Crain said. "This is the ultimate team sport and its encouraging to see the development of each lineup from race to race."
Overall, the Sooners placed 11th at the event while Ohio State won the regatta.
The 1V8 started the morning with a sixth-place showing, crossing the finish line in 6:59.22. No. 9 Virginia, No. 17 Indiana, No. 18 Syracuse, Oregon State and Tulsa comprised the top five. Boston came in seventh.
OU's 2V8 finished third in its first race of day with a time of 6:41.79. Virginia and Indiana rounded out the top three, while the Sooners defeated Syracuse, Tulsa, Oregon State and Boston.
The 1V4 picked up the Sooners' first top-three finish of the morning, crossing the finish line in 7:19.61. Virginia and Indiana placed first and second, respectively, while Syracuse, Oregon State, Tulsa and Boston rounded out the bottom four.
In its second race of the weekend, the 2V4 improved drastically from its sixth-place result Friday. It finished third with a time of 7:26.69. Virginia and Indiana filled out the top three. OU defeated Louisville, Northeastern, Tulsa and Clemson.
The 3V8 wrapped up a full morning of racing with a fourth-place finish (7:00.57). Virginia and No. 15 Washington State claimed first and second with Minnesota in third, while OU outpaced Clemson, Tennessee and Indiana. The boat also competed in the first race of the afternoon session, earning a third-place finish with a 6:52.67. Wisconsin and Navy finished ahead of the Sooners with Tennessee, UCF, Clemson and Indiana rounding out the field.
OU's 2V4 picked up the team's lone first-place finish of the regatta with a time of 7:20.42. It defeated second-place Tennessee by more than eight seconds, and was followed by UCF, Northeastern, Tulsa, Navy and Clemson.
The 1V4 placed fourth in its final race of the weekend, finishing in 7:08.64. Ohio State, Indiana and Virginia paced the competition with Wisconsin, Duke and UCLA finishing fifth, sixth and seventh.
The 2V8 came in sixth in a close contest, falling to Virginia, Ohio State, USC, Wisconsin and Indiana, and beating Washington State with a time of 6:30.91.
Wrapping up the weekend was the 1V8, which placed fourth with a time of 6:29.88. Tennessee, Northeastern and Cornell defeated the Sooners while UCF, Clemson and Boston fell to OU.
After a week off, Oklahoma returns to action at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, April 28.
