NORMAN — Oklahoma softball freshman Jocelyn Alo was named Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
In the first conference series of the season against Texas Tech, Alo continued to impress with her power at the plate. She was 4-for-5 (.800) in the first Big 12 series of her career, with all four of her hits going out of the park. Alo finished the weekend with a slugging percentage of 3.200 over three games with 16 total bases.
The Hauula, Hawaii, native drove in 10 runs and scored six over the weekend. In Sunday's game, Alo recorded her second career game with multiple home runs as she drilled a pair of three-run blasts to record a single-game career-high six RBIs.
Alo also exhibited patience at the plate as she drew walks in five of her 10 plate appearances. She totaled an on-base percentage of .900 while extending her on-base streak to 20 games, which leads the team this season.
In the opening weekend of Big 12 play, Alo led the conference in home runs, runs scored, RBIs, total bases, on-base percentage and slugging percentage while tying for first in walks and batting average.
Additionally, Alo was impressive in March 19's contest at CSUN as she scored both of OU's runs. The freshman homered in the first inning and scored the game-winning run in the top of the 11th.
Alo currently leads the nation in slugging percentage (1.134) and home runs per game (0.53). She ranks second in home runs (16), fourth in total bases (93) and fifth in on-base percentage (0598).
Alo's weekly honor marks the third of the season for OU as the Sooners swept the awards on March 19 when Paige Parker was named Pitcher of Week and Sydney Romero was named Player of the Week. It is the first conference recognition of Alo's career.
The Sooners return to action on March 29-31 as they travel to Waco, Texas, to take on No. 13/14 Baylor. OU has won 19 straight games, good for the longest active streak in Division I softball.
