OU Wraps Up Crew Classic With Two Top-Three Finishes

NORMAN – The Oklahoma rowing team wrapped up day two at the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay, Calif., picking up a pair of top-three finishes.
The 2V4 earned the Sooners' lone first-place finish and 1V4 came in third on Sunday. For the entire competition, OU totaled four top-three finishes.
Oklahoma faced top-level teams throughout the two-day regatta, including Big 12 rivals Tennessee and Texas, and 2017 NCAA runner-up California.
In the Sooners' first race of the day, the 1V4 raced to a third-place finish with a time of 7:59.129. They edged Washington State by less than two seconds and finished in front of UCLA and USC. California and Texas placed first and second, respectively.
OU's 2V8 finished fifth in its final, crossing the finish line in 7:08.831. It beat UCLA and finished less than half a second behind Washington State. California, Texas and USC comprised the top three.
The 1V8 placed fourth in its petite final with a time of 7:10.778. The Sooners outraced UCSB and San Diego, and fell to Stanford, Gonzaga and Tennessee.
In OU's final race of the day, the 2V4 paced the competition, finishing first with a time of 7:47.291. It defeated second-place UCLA by more than eight seconds with San Diego State, USC, Gonzaga and Kansas State also finishing behind the Sooners.
After its strong performance at the San Diego Crew Classic, Oklahoma heads east for the Big 12 Double Dual in Norfolk, Va., on Saturday, April 7.
