Rowing Lands 25 on Academic All-Big 12 Team
May 10, 2017 | Rowing
NORMAN – The Oklahoma rowing team earned 25 spots on the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Twenty-three Sooners were named to the first team while two were placed on the second team. First team members consist of student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. A total of 176 rowers were honored across the eight Big 12 programs.
Senior Natalie Grimes, junior Emily Coffman and sophomores Andrea Batchev and Madeleine Lange highlighted the OU selections as four of 19 Big 12 student-athletes who hold a 4.0 grade point average. OU's four perfect GPAs ties with Kansas for the most 4.0s from a school.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners are back in action this weekend, May 13-14, for the 2017 Big 12 Championship in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
