April 18, 2017 | Men's Golf
NORMAN — Three members of the No. 14 Oklahoma men's golf team were among the 41 student-athletes named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team, the conference announced Tuesday.
Senior Max McGreevy (administrative leadership), junior Grant Hirschman (management) and sophomore Blaine Hale (management) earned first-team honors, which requires a 3.20 or better GPA. The first-team award is the second in a row for McGreevy and Hirschman and first for Hale.
“I am very proud of our guys and the work they do in the classroom,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “Most people cannot understand the commitment our guys have to make in order to be good on the course and in the classroom. I appreciate how they go about their business.”
From the conference's 10 universities, 36 student-athletes were named to the first team, and five earned second-team selections.
To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulatively or over each of the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners will begin postseason competition next week, April 24-26, at the Big 12 Championship in Hutchinson, Kan.
