EDMOND, Okla. — The No. 13 Oklahoma men's golf team holds third place after the first day of The Maxwell. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par-70, 7,102-yard Oak Tree Country Club East Course.

Facing high winds on a challenging course, the Sooners fired a 283 (+3) and a 288 (+8) in the first and second rounds, respectively, to total 571 (+11) on the day.

“Today, it was very difficult out here at Oak Tree,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “For one, this (course) is always a tough test, but today, the wind was blowing 25-30 (mph) all day long, and the conditions were tough. So, I felt like our guys hung in there for the most part all day.”

No. 5 Oklahoma State paces the 14-team field at 567 (+7), and New Mexico is in second, two strokes behind the Cowboys. OU is eight strokes ahead of No. 1-ranked Baylor, and Liberty rounds out the top five at 583 (+23).

Junior Rylee Reinertson leads the Sooners at the end of day one, holding a share of second place at 140 (E) overall. After shooting a 71 (+1) in the first round, Reinertson posted a 69 (-1) in the second, aided by seven birdies, four of which were consecutive on holes No. 2-5.

Grant Hirschman sits two strokes behind his classmate in a tie for seventh. He recorded a 69 (-1) in the morning followed by a 73 (+3) in the afternoon round.

Sophomore Brad Dalke currently holds a piece of 15th place with an overall 144 (+4) after carding a 70 (E) and a 74 (+4) in the first and second rounds, respectively.

Also in the top 20 through 36 holes is sophomore Blaine Hale, who is one stroke behind Dalke overall and in a tie for 20th. Hale tallied a 73 (+3) in the first round followed with a 72 (+2).

Senior Max McGreevy is in a tie for 70th. He totaled a 156 (+16) with a 76 (+6) and an 80 (+10) on the day.

“We've got to regroup and get back after it tomorrow,” Hybl said.

Five Sooners are also competing as individuals and are unattached from team scoring. Redshirt freshman Quade Cummins and true freshman Riley Casey pace that group, sharing 22nd with an overall 146 (+6). After posting a 78 (+8) and a 76 (+6), respectively, in the first round, Cummins and Casey rebounded strong with a 68 (-2) and a 70 (E), respectively.

Freshman Garett Reband is one stroke behind Cummins and Casey, holding a piece of 30th. Redshirt freshman Thomas Johnson is tied for 74th at 158 (+18), and redshirt sophomore Griffin Pierce is in 80th with a 171 (+21).

The final round of The Maxwell is scheduled for Saturday morning, and the Sooners will tee off at 9:20 a.m. CT from hole No. 1. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com, and admission is free of charge to fans.
