Sooners Share Sixth after Day One in Augusta

NORMAN — Through two rounds of the 3M Augusta Invitational, the No. 13 Oklahoma men's golf team is tied for sixth place. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par-72, 7,005-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
After posting a 288 (E) in Saturday's first round, the Sooners fired a 278 (-10) in the afternoon to finish the day in sixth. OU is currently tied with tournament host Augusta at 566 (-10) overall.
"Overall it was a good day for us,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "Grant (Hirschman) and Max (McGreevy) played really solid this afternoon and did a nice job getting us back in it. Blaine (Hale) was very good all day for us. We have a lot of work to make up tomorrow, and it would be great to finish strong.”
No. 7 Illinois and New Mexico share the lead of the 15-team field with a two-round 557 (-19). UCF is in third at 559 (-17), and No. 8 Wake Forest holds fourth with an overall 559 (-17). No. 45 Houston rounds out the top five, one stroke ahead of the Sooners and Jaguars.
Junior Grant Hirschman paced OU with an overall 138 (-6) and a share of fifth place. Following an even-par 72 in the first round, Hirschman recorded a season-low 66 (-6) in the second, sinking four birdies and two eagles, one on the par-5 ninth hole and the other on the par-4 hole 18. His afternoon performance marks his 10th round in the 60s of the season.
Sophomore Blaine Hale is currently tied for 11th with a 36-hole 140 (-4). Hale tallied a 70 (-2) in both rounds on the day, pocketing an eagle on the par-5 17th hole in the morning and adding three birdies in each round.
Senior Max McGreevy is also in the top 20, holding a share of 18th place one stroke behind Hale. After carding a 73 (+1) in the first round, McGreevy earned his 12th round in the 60s this season with a 68 (-4) in the afternoon.
Junior Rylee Reinertson posted a 73 (+1) and a 74 (+2) in the first and second rounds, respectively, to total a 147 (+3) and sit in a tie for 54th. Sophomore Brad Dalke holds a share of 69th and an overall 151 (+7) after recording a 76 (+4) and a 75 (+3), respectively, on the day.
The final round of the 3M Augusta Invitational is scheduled for Sunday morning. The Sooners will tee off in the first group on hole No. 1 beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.
